SUMMER CAMP FOR TEENS
With summer in full swing now, our schools in Beijing and Shanghai is seeing a rise in the number of students visiting. Particularly interesting are the groups of teenagers traveling alone without their parents from miles away to study Chinese in China. Brave souls, they are.
One particular group landed in Shanghai just in time for the sunny weather. Dressed in their colourful T-shirts and cool sunglasses, the teens explored Shanghai's Old Town, walking into Yu Garden to see the Chenghuang Temple and took a boat ride on the famous West Lake in Hangzhou. And of course, no trip to Shanghai would be complete without visiting the famous Shanghai Bund.
That's Mandarin is expecting more groups like this, especially with the addition of Mandarin as a second language choice in schools in Europe, North America and many other places. Learning Chinese is much more than just listening or speaking the language. Immerse yourself in the culture and you'll walk away with much more than you'd ever expect.
KICKING OFF SUMMER CAMP 2016
That's Mandarin's Chinese Summer Camp 2016 has officially begun as of June 13th in Beijing and Shanghai. Staff and teachers welcomed the campers, introducing and getting to know each student as they arrived at school. We look forward to a great Summer Camp!
FIRST 2016 SUMMER CAMP A SUCCESS
Every year That's Mandarin organizes a Chinese Summer Camp for kids aged 5-17 years old and we welcomed our very first 2016 Summer Camp group this March in Beijing. The students came all the way from the U.K. to participate in a tailor-made, Private Chinese Summer Camp Program. It was the students’ first time to visit China. And from the feedback we received, it was an incredibly unique experience for them, one that was filled with fun! They learned Mandarin Chinese language while being fully immersed in Chinese culture.
The 6-day Private Camp Program included a visit to 11 famous Chinese destinations in Beijing, like the Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and the Great Wall of China. That was an ambitious itinerary and they managed to cross off everything on their travel checklist. Well done!
Thank you for choosing our Chinese Summer Camp. It was great hosting your group! And we hope to see you again next year, perhaps in Shanghai!

SUPPORTING CHARITY EDUCATION AND WORKING WITH STEPPING STONES
This year, Stepping Stones is selling a wall calendar for 2016. This calendar has 14 unique images of Shanghai donated by talented local photographers, covers the main international and Chinese holidays and has space to record personal events. Each calendar, just 100RMB, covers the costs of weekly English tuition for 1 migrant child for a whole school term.
That’s Mandarin helps raise funds to improve education for migrant children and values the educational work they do and want to show our support by offering 2 hours high-quality Mandarin classes worth RMB500 to every Stepping Stones volunteer.
CONGRATULATIONS, THAT'S MANDARIN BEIJING!
And thank you to all the students who voted for us this year! Thanks to all of you, That’s Mandarin was voted Best Mandarin Language School 2015!
We couldn’t have been happier to receive the award from both That’s Beijing and from all of you. We can’t wait to keep teaching all of you Chinese and to keep watching you learn and become confident Mandarin speakers!
Come celebrate with us at a cultural event in July!
SUMMER AT THAT'S MANDARIN
That’s Mandarin is full of new students! Wow! We can’t thank all of all of you enough!
With the start of Summer Camp, a lot of our classrooms are even full around the clock!
But, don’t worry—there are still some seats left for some summer campers and adults interested in small group courses throughout the summer.
If private classes are more your style, let us know and we will do our best to fit you in according to your schedule. If you decide to register for private classes now, but can't start classes until August because of our busy schedule, we will give you 20% off of your tuition for the inconvenience.
TEAMING UP WITH STEPPING STONES
We don’t always announce a new partnership, but this time it’s special. That’s Mandarin has teamed up with Stepping Stones, a local Shanghai non-profit, for volunteer work!
Stepping Stones recruits, trains and supports volunteers to teach English to under-privileged students in Shanghai and rural China, and offers excellent opportunities for students of Chinese to get involved in their local community in a meaningful way. They also have programs to help those same students get glasses or have eye surgery for free.
We couldn’t be happier to be working with them at a corporate level for staff volunteering and we hope you take advantage of the opportunities they offer too!
Beijing students and residents, you're not getting left out! If you can spare the time, come down for a week and do some rural service work.
Click here to go to their website and see what opportunities are right for you!

ICS VISITS THAT'S MANDARIN
This week we were proud to welcome the International Channel Shanghai (ICS) to That’s Mandarin for the second year running! This time they wanted to include us in their new program ‘Cultural Matters’, which airs on the 27/7/14 and will involve exploring the benefits of China-based language schools and how summer camps help children on their way to success in the future.
We were pleased to involve their reporters in our language classes, so they could see first-hand how the children learn Chinese with That’s Mandarin, and we also gave them the chance to accompany our older Summer Campers on a day trip to the local market, so they could see how the children put their Mandarin into practice by buying fruit and vegetables for their cooking class.

BJ REVIEWER WRITE UP!
An editor from the Beijing Reviewer recently came to our school to take a look around and ended up signing up to learn Mandarin with us! This morning we came into work and were pleasantly surprised by this lovely write up on our school. Stay tuned as we have begun doing some exciting collaborations with this fantastic platform offering ex-pat readers some useful language tips & cultural insight. Below is just a snippet of the piece, you can read the rest of it by clicking here.
Why do we love The BJ Reviewer? Because in our opinion it is the most reliable ex-pat resource platform on the web, with honest reviews and actual research being done to offer answers to all the questions that us ex-pats have while living in China.
