that's mandarin has helped me exponentially improve my Chinese speaking ability from nothing within just two months. The online account logs all of the vocabulary and grammar you have learnt so if you're pedantic, like me, you can look over it and practice the tones to perfection. All of the teachers are very friendly and always willing to help making learning less of a chore.read more

This is a great language school. I have been going here for about three years. The teachers are excellent - particularly Cai Laoshi.read more

I took one-on-one classes (3 classes per day for 4 months) at the Beijing school and the Shanghai school. It was quite a pleasant experience. The teachers are very adaptive and helpful to their students and their learning needs. Although, i was probably learning too quickly for my own good as i learned a lot but found it very hard to completely grasp the thought process of the language. I would recommend less classes over a longer period of time.read more

I have been having lessons at That's Mandarin for a year. I started off with absolutely no knowledge of Mandarin at all and it was very daunting! My teacher has been the same teacher the whole way through which has made the process much more personal and comfortable. The lessons are fun, interesting and engaging. The style of teaching builds on your gained experience/confidence. If I have ever ask my teacher to teach me something/show me something in particular, she has always been really helpful and positive. She quickly built up my confidence with Mandarin which made me much more enthusiastic to learning it! The admin & organisation is also good. There's no denying that learning a new language (especially Mandarin) is inherently difficult and requires a lot of input from the learner, but the teachers at TM really do help to support this. I really enjoy the teaching and lessons here.read more

I took one-on-one classes for four months at the Beijing school. The school's atmosphere is nice with plenty of tea/coffee if you want to spend some time studying before/after class. The teachers are all very friendly and professional. I found their teaching style to be very natural and felt my speaking/listening ability improved a lot in the time I was there. They were also happy to change teaching topics depending on my needs/goals. If I had to give any criticism it would be that I did not find the online app mandarincafe to be extremely useful and I ended up using the printed notes I was given, as well as supplementing with flash cards and apps like Pleco. However, overall it was an excellent decision and I am very happy with my progress. Thank you That's Mandarin!read more

I have been going to That's Mandarin for the last 3 years. Coming to China as an intermediate learner I found it hard to fit into group classes so I have always taken one-on-one classes. After a few months of regular classes using video lessons, my spoken Chinese really improved. After that, I used the school to help me prepare for HSK 4 and 5 exams. I really like the campus and use of technology to save class notes or keep track of my class schedule. The teachers are always friendly and also help me with questions about living in China.read more

My wife and I have been going to That's Mandarin for the past 2 years. It is considered to be the best school in Beijing among many expats who tried many schools. All the teachers and staff are extremely professional and at the same time happy and flexible. The fact that everything you learn goes straight into your web account so you have access to it at all times is a huge advantage. Another huge plus is that the Great Leap Brewery is about 40 steps away...read more

I really believe that their one-on-one intensive program can help make a difference in one’s Chinese language performance- my family and I have already come back to this school three times because of that. The last time I took the course I saw large improvements in my speaking confidence and my ability to recognize characters that were commonly used, but not taught in a typical school syllabus. The lessons were very relaxed and informal which makes them more engaging because you get to determine what you want to learn. I recommend it to anyone who is serious about improving their Chinese.read more

I really liked the fact that I could tailor my learning to the actual scenarios I experienced. The teachers I had were always willing to help me say the sentences I wanted to learn. Teaching me the proper sentence structure and parts of speech was also very helpful to know. I found it very helpful when one of my teachers encouraged me to try to speak in Chinese the whole time and she would use Chinese majority of time to speak to me even when to explain what a word means. Use of hand gestures and pictures without using English was also very helpful. Typing out all the sentences and words we talked about is very useful. Asking me to translate the pinyin to English and English to pinyin is a good teaching technique. I like that coffee, tea, and water is provided.read more
