Nearby subway stations

You can get to our school by taking Line 2 to Jing’an Temple Station or Line 7 to Changping Road Station, and, in both cases, get out at Exit 3.

Shanghai subway is one of the most convenient ways to get around the city. Shanghai has more than 17 subway lines that link the city, with stations mainly set near top destinations and hubs. Fares typically average anywhere from 3 to 9 yuan, depending on the distance traveled. You can get a Shanghai subway card at nearly any station - via an automated machine or a ticket counter.

The 1 on 1 teaching is so valuable not only because of the flexibility it provides but because you are constantly speaking and listening.

In 3 days of 1-on-1 class, Li Laoshi taught me how to approach to basic knowledge of Chinese, for instance proper way to pronounce Pinyin tones, language usage depends on the situation, challenges many foreigners encounter during speaking and writing Mandarin and so on. He also gave me interesting info about cultural stuff and Shanghai!

Frequently Asked Questions

GET YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

What is the course schedule?

This course features classes 5 days a week. You can choose to have either 4 or 6 classes per day. You can also choose the time of day that suits you best — in this regard, Private class schedule is much more flexible than Group classes. Contact us for details.

Who are the teachers?

All our teachers are native Chinese speakers, university graduates with majors in Chinese language education or Chinese literature. Besides, they have also previously obtained a “teaching Mandarin as a second language” certificate before they joined us and successfully completed That’s Mandarin’s mandatory Teachers Training Course (TTC).

We have high requirements for our teachers, and only hire 5% of applicants.

What teaching methods do you use, and which learning platform?

We've developed our own teaching and learning methods. We use our own in-house Chinese learning platform NihaoCafe for all classes. You will be able to find all your class materials, read the teacher’s comments, review your lessons, and schedule your classes.

Will the classes be taught in English?

All of our classes are taught in Chinese to give students a fully immersive Chinese experience. Even for absolute beginners, our teachers will only use limited English to help you understand them. Our teacher will use pictures, videos, signs, and gestures to help you learn.

As your Chinese level progresses, less and less English will be used in your classes and you will be able to understand more and more Chinese every day.

Do you provide accommodation?

Yes. We can help you to arrange your accommodation in Shanghai. Please contact us directly to get more information.

I need Chinese for my work/travel/study/etc. Will I be able to learn all the necessary content within this private course?

Yes. You can tell us what are your learning goals and expectations and we will customize the content of the classes specifically for you.

Isn’t learning Chinese for 4 or 6 hours per day too much?

Absolutely not. This way you will be able to absorb more information than if you learn Chinese only for an hour or two per day. Besides, there are short breaks in between the classes, so that you can rest and grab a cup of tea, coffee or water.
