Hainan Island is the smallest province of China, yet it is one of the most well-known tourist destinations in South China. Its southernmost location at 18° north latitude makes it an ideal place for a beach vacation , with over 47 million tourists yearly.

The Tropical Climate Of Hainan

Hainan Island’s weather ranges from 18  to 30°C for most of the year. The capital city of Hainan in the north, Haikou, has a humid subtropical climate. Meanwhile, the rest of the island has a tropical monsoon climate with a warmer annual temperature.

The air quality on Hainan Island is also much better than most cities in mainland China. It’s no surprise why this island is also popular among Chinese people. Combining the good weather and the beautiful beaches of Hainan, this island has become the top choice for a good family time.

Haikou

Originally a port city, Haikou is now mainly known for its beautiful environment and excellent beach resorts. Coconut palms line the city, creating a relaxing Californian atmosphere with its annual average temperature of 24.2°C.

While in Haikou, you can visit the Qilou Old Street for some local food and souveniers. If you’re interested in geology, you can see the most intact volcano craters at the Volcano Crater Park.

Wildlife lovers will enjoy a visit to the Hainan Tropical Wildlife Garden, which closely resembles the natural environment of the wild. Here you can have a zoo / safari experience unlike any other.

In addition, go to Feng Xiaogang Movie Town for an exciting experience. This is a part of Mission Hills Haikou, a large golf and spa resort located just outside Haikou. It takes you back in time to the 1940s era China.

Sanya, a city to the south of the island, has an average temperature of 28°C. The warm climate and cleaner air makes it a great place for an escape from the big city life. Additionally, it is also the perfect choice for outdoor lovers since it’s close to the mountains and rainforests.

While in Sanya, visit the Nanshan temple to see one of the tallest statues in the world. The Buddhist statues, Guan Yin, stands tall at 108 metres.

As the premier destination for Russians and middle-class Chinese families, Sanya has gained the title as the “Hawaii of China”.
