3 Facts about Moving into New Home in China

Jul 9, 2020 | Life In China

Chinese people are not particularly fond of moving. That’s why a so-called “relocation package” is not something many people in China would consider. However, there are some interesting facts about Chinese people’s attitudes towards moving to a new place. All listed and explained below. Here are 3 interesting facts you might need to know when moving to a new home in China.

1. Rent a Flat vs. Buy a New Flat

Here’s one interesting thing that can be observed in Chinese society. People prefer to own a flat instead of renting a house or an apartment. Especially when it comes to establishing a family. Owning a flat is often considered a prerequisite for marriage for young men in China. The reason behind it is that Chinese girls treat this factor as an inalienable part of a stable marriage. This goes alongside with mutual understanding and communication. In addition, owing an apartment gives many people a sense of security as it is something they can count on in the future.

2. Take Everything When Moving to a New Place

Moving to a new place is usually associated with a brand new start in a person’s life. However, in China, it doesn’t mean that one needs to leave everything behind. It’s common that a Chinese family tends to take everything from household appliances to kitchen utensils with them when moving to a new place. It can be explained by the fact that “leading a thrifty life” has always been considered a virtue in Chinese culture. Nevertheless, young people nowadays are willing to spend more money on daily necessities as they care more about the quality of life.

3. Call a Removal Company for Help?

Unlike in some western countries, Chinese people often call removal companies for help when they decide to move to a new place. Even if their new home is located in the same city as their current house or flat. It’s not just because they can’t be bothered to do it by themselves. Some other factors (for instance, not every Chinese family can afford a car) also serve as reasons why Chinese people show their preference for removal companies.
