Students’ Feedback

What Our Students Say

icon quote yellow

My daughter has made some good friends and have been in an immersive Chinese speaking environment. Although she studies traditional Chinese characters at school, her exposure to simplified characters and Beijing accent have added more color and variety to her understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture.

I spent two weeks at That’s Mandarin. Before coming I was a little apprehensive, but I soon made friends and adjusted to the environment. The teachers at the school always strove to make learning enjoyable while also challenging us, and I developed my Mandarin skills in all aspects - especially speaking, as the teachers would mainly talk to us in conversational Mandarin.

I really enjoyed my time at That’s Mandarin. I think my Mandarin level improved greatly during my two weeks of immersion here. Although there were lots of classes, we did something fun every single day, from sightseeing to shopping or eating authentic food you can’t get back in America.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the course schedule?

The schedule is quite intensive. You will have Chinese classes from Monday to Friday from 9:00 am till 3:50 pm. It’s 6 classes per day, with lunch time from 12:00 pm till 1:00 pm.
If you “upgrade” your program to a Full Teen Immersion Course, the schedule will also include evening activities and weekend field trips.

Who are the teachers?

Our teachers are all native Chinese speakers who are highly-qualified and experienced in teaching Chinese to foreigners. Our teachers are university graduates with majors in Chinese language education or Chinese literature. They have also previously obtained a “teaching Mandarin as a second language” certificate before they joined us and successfully completed That’s Mandarin’s mandatory Teachers Training Course (TTC).

What teaching materials do you use?

We developed our own teaching and learning methods. We use our own Chinese learning platform for all our classes. There you can find all the materials, read the teacher’s comments, review your lessons, and even schedule your classes.

Will the classes be taught in English?

All of our classes are taught in Chinese to give students a fully immersive Chinese experience. Even for absolute beginners, our teachers will only use limited English to help you understand. Our teacher will use pictures, videos, signs, and gestures to help students remember and understand new material.

Do you provide accommodation?

Yes. But it’s only available for our Full Teen Immersion Program. At the same time, we can help find accommodation for Day Camp students as well.

Can I join this program another time except for the starting dates?

Yes, you can. But for a more complete experience, we would recommend you to join our program on Monday. Besides, you can join the program only during summer and winter.

Can I change the program duration?

You can. But you will need to let us know 1-2 months in advance. If you can’t come to our school this year due to an accident or any kind of unexpected situation, your kid can come and join our program next year.
